This course will focus on commercial and business topics that are of particular interest to American lawyers whose practice might involve dealings with Asian and Pacific Rim countries and companies. The course is designed to provide students with a better understanding of differences that exist between the American legal system and the legal systems of countries in South East Asia and the Pacific Rim. The content of the course will emphasize those aspects of the law which are different, both in principle and application, from American law. This course will also emphasize how the principles of Islam influence and shape the commercial business law of those countries of South East Asia and Pacific Rim whose legal system is substantially influenced by these segments with a visitor from Japan, India and an Islamic expert, teaching each of the segments.
