| A course to familiarize students with legal, strategic, and ethical problems experienced in practice, and to provide methods and tools for their solutions. Following a "civil procedure, as applied" approach, the syllabus presents major topics of civil litigation: interviewing, factual and legal investigation, drafting pleadings, discovery, motions, and negotiation, along with questions of legal ethics as they arise. The course also addresses a range of substantive law issues arising in legal services and civil rights practice, and examines challenges unique to poverty law and public interest litigation. Particular attention will be paid to the relationship between theory and practice, as well as to the formulation of the lawyer's professional identity. |
