Description:

The course deals with both comparative criminal law (comparing the criminal law of various nations) and international criminal law (having to do with matters that go beyond national boundaries). Starting with the comparative aspect, we will examine criminal procedure and general and specific parts of substantive criminal law in civil law countries (using French law as our springboard) and in common law countries. In the second half of the course we will examine international criminal law, touching on such things as universal jurisdiction and the case law of the International Criminal Tribunals.
