Work Description

DESCRIPTION OF ORGANIZATION: Management: District Court (Civil, Juvenile, Criminal)

DESCRIPTION OF STUDENT WORK/PROJECTS: Research and drafting orders.

COURSE OR OTHER REQUIREMENTS/PREFERENCES FOR STUDENT: Students can be 3rd year certified. No special skills required, but an appreciation for the work of district court is essential.

“District Court Externship” where students will have an opportunity to interact with a number of the judges sitting in District 15B (Orange and Chatham Counties) rather than pairing up with one individual district court judge. Judge Anderson will be the site supervisor and point person and we anticipate that all of the 15B District Court judges will be enthusiastic about participating and offering both observational experiences and opportunities for students to create work product. Judge Anderson’s goal is to take advantage of and expose students to all of the activities that they might learn from in the courthouse (both District and Superior Court). The judges also plan to identify and assign externs a long term project addressing a specific district court need (for example: creating resources / materials for pro se litigants).
