On behalf of the State of North Carolina, prosecute all crimes (infractions, misdemeanors, and felonies) that occur in the 26th Prosecutorial District. The 26th district includes only Mecklenburg County and is the largest DA's office in the state.

The office is divided into "prosecution teams" that handle specific types of cases. Each extern's experience will differ slightly depending on the most current needs of the team and ADA to which they are assigned. Generally, externs may expect to assist attorneys in doing the following: screening and analyzing cases; preparing for, and possibly conducting, bond hearings; preparing for, and attending, plea conferences, arraignments, and trials; interviewing law enforcement witnesses, civilian witnesses, and victims; preparing plea offers; preparing and disseminating discovery materials; conducting legal research and drafting memorandums or motions; communicating with defense attorneys. Externs will also observe a variety of criminal court proceedings and may have an opportunity to participate in team meetings where team policies, office-wide policies, and specific cases are discussed. All interested applicants must be available to be interviewed in-person and will need to bring an unofficial copy of his or her transcript to the interview. Successful applicants must pass a background check prior to starting.
