Work Description

Cornerstone Therapeutics Inc. is a publicly traded (CRTX) specialty pharmaceutical company focused on acquiring, developing and commercializing products primarily for the respiratory and related markets. Key elements of the company’s strategy are to pursue acquisition or licensing transactions to acquire the rights to patent-protected, branded respiratory or related pharmaceutical products, or late-stage product candidates; to implement life cycle management strategies to maximize the potential value and competitive position of the company’s currently marketed products, newly acquired products and product candidates that are currently in development; to grow product revenue through the company’s specialty sales forces; and to maintain and strengthen the intellectual property position of the company’s currently marketed products, newly acquired products and product candidates.

Anticipated Student Projects:

Assisting on specific projects relating to contracts, regulation, corporate governance and business administration in a small public pharmaceutical company. The extern/intern will be exposed to drafting, negotiating, organizing, identifying and managing key elements of various types of contracts that are common to the pharmaceutical business. As an adjunct to the contracts focus, the intern will receive exposure to the principles of governance, regulation and intellectual property which drive the various relationships that make up the business. The extern/intern will also be exposed to the administrative aspects of integrating a legal function into the daily business of a dynamic company. The role will involve a few predictable projects which will require getting into the trenches researching and assembling data, as well as unpredictable ad hoc assignments (just like real life) and opportunities to observe other aspects of the business hands on.

Summer Option:

A commitment of around 30-35 hours a week for at least 5 weeks will be required to derive value from this opportunity (this could be restructured during the semester). For the right candidate in the summer, a 5-6 week externship could be followed by a similar length paid internship.
