Work Description

The Risk Management operation within the Department of Athletics is responsible for a wide variety of tasks involving nearly every unit within the Department. This externship is supervised by the University of North Carolina’s Associate Athletic Director responsible for Risk Management.

Student extern duties include researching risk management best practices both inside and outside the collegiate sports industry, monitoring risk management controls already established by the Department of Athletics, and working on various ongoing initiatives, including researching and developing strategies that can benefit the University in conjunction with the Uniform Athlete Agent Act. Due to the broad scope of the Department’s efforts in this area, student externs will interface with nearly every facet of Carolina Athletics. Strong research abilities, legal acumen, critical thinking skills, and writing proficiency will be essential to ensure successful fulfillment of the responsibilities of this externship.

Strong knowledge of contract law and legal writing skills are preferred. Writing sample required.
