Immigration and citizenship work
The extern would review records of proceedings and draft briefs to the
Board of Immigration Appeals for visa denial cases. The extern would
research various issues that arise in connection with federal court
litigation or case adjudication. The extern would review naturalization
applications wherein the applicant has removal grounds that may be
applicable, and assess whether a notice to appear (initiating removal
proceedings) should be issued as a matter of prosecutorial discretion.
The extern may be involved in reviewing or drafting NTA charges for
removal even though CIS is not primarily an enforcement organization.
The extern would have an opportunity to observe immigration court and
discuss cases with ICE counsel.
Completion or enrollment in immigration law helpful.
