Work Description

 

1)      Please describe briefly the nature of the work performed by your organization:

Triangle Transit improves our region’s quality of life by connecting people and places with reliable, safe, and easy-to-use travel choices that reduce congestion and energy use, save money, and promote sustainability, healthier lifestyles, and a more environmentally responsible community. For more information, please visit www.triangletransit.org.

 

 

 

 

 


2)      Please describe the types of projects you anticipate assigning to student externs:

The successful extern will perform a broad range of duties related to supporting Triangle Transit’s Office of General Counsel. Such duties and/or project assignments may include: (i) Using print and electronic resources, research relevant case law, statutes, regulations, and ordinances regarding: Triangle Transit’s statutory authority; administration and regulatory concerns; legislative issues; employment law; contracting/procurement; real estate holdings; state and federal tort claims law; and environmental law; (ii) Review, analyze, and organize materials in preparation for meetings, hearings, or litigation, and support ongoing development of legal documents; (iii) Assist with drafting contracts, leases, access and entry agreements, correspondence, discovery requests and responses, and other documents; (iv) Attend meetings, hearings, depositions, workshops, and other events with Triangle Transit staff; (v) Work with professional diligence to find solutions to complex legal, professional, technical, and administrative problems using a variety of informational sources while exercising creativity; and (vi) Work under the supervision and direction of, and perform other duties as assigned by the General Counsel.

 

 
 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 


3)      Please indicate any preferences or requirements as to course work you would like a student to have completed (e.g. Administrative Law, Environmental Law, etc.) and whether a particular skill or experience would be helpful to a student working with your organization. In addition, please indicate whether a student extern working with you will need to be certified under the State Bar Student Practice Rule.

Administrative, Environmental, Contracts, Property, and NC State/Municipal Law would be helpful.
