Attorney General

Fall; Spring

Work Description

An extern here would get some litigation exposure, but would primarily participate in educational policy issues. The Department oversees and administers multiple aspects of our public education system, including curriculum, testing, teacher licensing, child nutrition, school health, exceptional children, school transportation, and charter schools. An extern would likely encounter constitutional issues, federal statutes and regs, state statutory interpretation and application, first-hand legislative experience, and a close-up look at an active state administrative agency.

We also have personnel and employment issues. Finally, the State agency interacts with local school boards and officials, as well as their lawyers, to analyze and apply various statutes and regs.

This is more of an in-house counsel experience.
