LEGAL EXTERNSHIP JOB DESCRIPTION
SUMMARY: Under the supervision of the General Counsel and working closely with other members of the Legal Department, Chiesi legal externs will assist on specific projects relating to contracts, compliance, litigation and business administration in the US subsidiary of a global pharmaceutical company. Externs will receive exposure to the principles of corporate governance, FDA regulation and intellectual property which drive the various relationships that make up the pharmaceutical business. Additionally, externs will be exposed to the administrative aspects of integrating a legal function into the daily business of a dynamic company. The role will involve predictable projects that will mandate getting into the trenches, as well as unpredictable ad hoc assignments, and opportunities to observe other aspects of the business up close and personal.
draft, review and assist in negotiating various types of contracts common to the pharmaceutical business
assist in managing the contracts database
draft letters and other legal notices
research regulatory, compliance and other legal issues as needed
assist members of the Legal Department in managing the company’s litigation strategy in an efficient and cost-effective manner
perform internal discovery for ongoing litigation under the supervision of the General Counsel
EXPECTED COMMITMENT: For spring and fall externs, a commitment of 10 to 15 hours per week will derive the most value from this opportunity. For summer externs, a commitment of 30 to 35 hours per week is anticipated.
PREREQUISITES: Candidates are required to have taken or currently be taking Business Organizations/Associations. Candidates who have taken courses in intellectual property, health law and advanced corporate law (such as mergers and acquisitions) will be preferred.
