Work Description

DESCRIPTION OF ORGANIZATION: Office prosecutes felony and misdemeanor cases in Durham courts.

DESCRIPTION OF STUDENT WORK/PROJECTS: Students will assist prosecutors in District Court prosecutions.

COURSE AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS/PREFERENCES FOR STUDENT: Prefers a student who can be certified under the Student Practice Rules. Ten hours a week is the absolute minimum. Student needs to have taken or be taking Criminal Procedure, Trial Ad and Evidence.

NOTE: Prefers Extern work 1 full day and one half day per week. Trials are late morning and early afternoon.

Must be available to work M-TH at least 2 mornings. Also need 1 more morning or afternoon which can be M-F. Trials are mainly done in the morning sessions. Either way, the total hrs per week must be at least 10. We do not regularly have trials on Fridays, so Friday cannot be a whole day, but it can be a half day. Most of the required hours must be done M-TH. We require externs to be in the office by 8:15, and the courts break for lunch at 1:00.

Cannot split summer.
