Work Description

The Office of the Solicitor General oversees civil appeals that involve the State of North

Carolina. The office handles briefing and argument of cases in the U.S. Supreme Court, as

well as significant cases in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit, the North

Carolina Supreme Court, and the North Carolina Court of Appeals. The office also

reviews and edits all other civil appellate briefs filed by the State. Finally, the office runs

moot courts for upcoming oral arguments.

The office advises the Attorney General on legal policy issues, including the State's

participation as an amicus curiae in the U.S. Supreme Court and other courts.
