Work Description

DESCRIPTION OF ORGANIZATION: Prosecution of criminal matters in District and Superior Court for Orange County.

DESCRIPTION OF STUDENT WORK/PROJECTS: Externs will have the option of working with the ADA(s) in charge of domestic violence matters in District and Superior Court or working with an ADA in Superior Court. Externs will assist in interviewing witnesses, preparing cases for trial, and may have the opportunity to try misdemeanor cases. Juvenile Delinquency Court is conducted at the district court level, but deals with both misdemeanor and felony cases. Prefer externs be available on Mondays and Thursdays. However, there will be opportunities during other days of the week.

General Court Schedule:
Monday-District Court, Hillsborough
Thursday-District Court, Hillsborough
2nd and 4th Wednesday-Juvenile Delinquency Court, Hillsborough
Superior Court Trial Sessions- generally 1st and/or 2nd week of each month, Hillsborough
Superior Court Administrative Sessions- generally 3rd or 4th week of each month (Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday), Hillsborough

COURSE AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS/PREFERENCES FOR STUDENT: Trial advocacy, criminal law, evidence. Student will need to be certified under the Third Year Practice Rule.
