Work Description

DESCRIPTION OF ORGANIZATION: Public Policy & Advocacy groups analyzes state and federal legislative issues affecting the pharmaceutical industry; assists in development of legislative strategy; develops issue-related communications; and drafts legislation, testimony, and talking points in support of legislative initiatives. The group also identifies opportunities to initiate legislation or activities with government entities in support of GSK commercial objectives.

DESCRIPTION OF STUDENT WORK/PROJECTS: The extern will work with several directors and he/she will, among other things, assist in evaluating issues, conduct research on relevant issues and topics, assist in the development of issue related communication tools and draft issue-related briefing papers.

COURSE OR OTHER REQUIREMENTS/PREFERENCES FOR STUDENT: Familiarity with FDA law will be an asset but not essential. Primary requirement is strong writing skills. Much of the research and writing may not be case law or legal related, but will focus more on health-related topics and legislative activities. It is highly preferred that the student show prior interest or have experience with legislative issues or policy. The student does not have to be certified under the State Bar Student Practice Rule.
