No formal application is required. Students from law schools other than UNC-Chapel Hill must provide the following to the School of Law Registrar's Office:
A residency determination establishes if students should have in-state or out-of-state tuition. Because NC residency status is governed solely by NC statute, lack of eligibility for in-state status in another state does not guarantee in-state status in NC. The residency statute mandates only those who can demonstrate a minimum of twelve months of uninterrupted domicile (legal residence) in NC are eligible for in-state tuition. The statute also places the burden of proof on the student to establish, by preponderance of evidence, that they are a bona fide domicilary rather than a mere resident of NC. The application for residency can be completed at https://ncresidency.cfnc.org/residencyInfo/ and the deadline is May 17.
It is recommended that the Summer 2019 registration form and letter of good standing be received ASAP in late March/early April in order to be considered for early registration. Visiting students who do not complete registration by May 3 may be required to pre-pay tuition/fees or provide proof of financial aid prior to registration.
