The Office of Scholarships and Student Aid establishes a cost of attendance budget for students to help us determine the total amount of aid for which you are eligible. This budget includes tuition and fees, as well as allowances for living expenses, books and supplies, transportation, and miscellaneous expenses. You may receive financial aid up to your total COA budget. Adjustments will be required if the total of all of your scholarships, grants, and student loans exceeds the budgeted amount.

There are some situations when we may be able to increase your COA budget for education-related expenses so that you will be able to borrow student loan money to cover the cost. We may increase your COA budget to include the purchase of a computer and peripherals (a one-time adjustment of $1,689 during the course of your law school career), to provide for childcare expenses, or to accommodate excessive medical expenses. There is no specific form to complete; submit a written request with supporting documentation (itemized receipts or invoices). For additional information, please contact lawfinancialaid@unc.edu.
