Michael J. States has been the assistant dean for admissions at the University of North Carolina School of Law since August 2004.
Dean States was the associate director of admissions and financial aid at The John Marshall Law School in Chicago, Illinois, from August 1997-August 1999. He then moved on to become the director of admissions at the Hamline University School of Law from August 1999-December 2003. He served as the assistant dean for enrollment management at the Stuart Graduate School of Business from January 2004 until joining the University of North Carolina School of Law in August 2004.
He has served as the president of the Midwest Alliance of Law School Admissions (MALSA), and as the chair of the American Association of Law Schools Subcommittee on Pre-Legal Education and Law School Admissions. He has served on the Law School Admission Council's Finance and Legal Affairs Committee and is currently a member of its Board of Trustees. He also serves as a consultant and a presenter for the Council on Legal Education Opportunity's (CLEO) Achieving Success in the Application Process program.
A native of St. Louis, Missouri, he received his B.A. in political science from the University of Kansas and his juris doctor from St. Louis University School of Law.

Jennifer R. Kott has been the director of admissions at UNC School of Law at Chapel Hill since October 2007. Prior to her role at UNC, Kott was the assistant director of admission and recruitment at Tulane University Law School, where she was honored with the 2007 Distinguished Staff Award. Among her many achievements at Tulane, Kott led her admission team through the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina - helping displaced students return to New Orleans and strengthening the school's recruitment programs at a difficult time. Her previous experience includes being manager of the CO-OP MBA Program at Northeastern University Graduate School of Business Administration in Boston where she oversaw marketing, recruiting, admission and enrollment. She was previously on the admission staff at Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) serving as the New England States Admission Representative. Kott has been active in national admission organizations and through her service to the Law School Admission Council (LSAC) as a panelist at the annual meetings, conferences and as a member of the Misconduct and Irregularities Subcommittee and the National Recruitment Calendar Workgroup. In August 2010, Kott was appointed Prelaw Advisor for the UNC General College and the College of Arts & Sciences. In addition to her duties as Director of Admissions and Prelaw Advisor, Kott also serves as the faculty advisor to the student organziations, the Carolina Law Ambassadors and the UNC chapter of the national prelaw fraternity, Phi Alpha Delta. Most recently Kott was asked to serve as Selection Committee Chair for interviewing and selecting finaslits' for the Robertson Scholars Leadership Program.
