The Honorable Philemina McNeill Jones, of Orlando, Fla., is a retired federal administrative law judge.  Her past positions include retired Commander, United States Navy/Reserves; assistant director/attorney, Civil Division, Department of Justice (DOJ); and board member, Board of Immigration Appeals, Executive Office of Immigration Review (DOJ).  Judge Jones is a past recipient of the DOJ Attorney General's Award for Distinguished Service. William R. (Bill) Maynard, of El Paso, Texas, "retired" in June 2016 as supervisory assistant federal public defender after 30 years service in the Western District of Texas and returned to solo law practice. A former master of the American Inns of Courts, he was awarded the 2016 Professionalism and Ethics Award by El Paso's chapter of the American Inns of Court; Over past years he taught oral trial advocacy skills to lawyers in Mexico, Panama, and Ecuador on behalf of the American Bar Association Rule of Law Initiative, the National Institute of Trial Advocacy, and the Conference of Western Attorney Generals. Elizabeth Gibson, UNC School of Law Professor Emeritus, received the Order of the Long Leaf Pine Award. Among the most prestigious awards conferred by the Governor of North Carolina, The Order of the Long Leaf Pine is awarded to persons for exemplary service to the State of North Carolina and their communities that is above and beyond the call of duty and which has made a significant impact and strengthened North Carolina.

On April 29, 2016 the UNC Law Alumni Association announced creation of the Professor S. Elizabeth Gibson Award for Faculty Excellence. This award is presented by the UNC Law Alumni Association to honor a tenured faculty member who typifies the outstanding qualities of integrity, legal scholarship, exemplary teaching and commitment to service to UNC School of Law and the University. The award is named for S. Elizabeth Gibson ’76, Burton Craige Professor of Law, to honor the qualities that she exemplified in her more than thirty years as a much loved and respected educator. Ross received the North Carolina Bar Association Judge John J. Parker Award and was honored at the 2016 NCBA Annual Meeting.

Garber Alfred Davidson Jr. serves as chair of the Foreign Service Grievance Board, U.S. Department of State. Davidson was appointed chair by Secretary Hilary Clinton and renewed by Secretary John Kerry.  Davidson is a retired senior foreign service officer with career in USAID as lawyer and senior executive.
