Carolina Law Alumni Honored by the North Carolina State Bar

Four Carolina Law alumni are among the 13 exemplary lawyers who will receive the 2015 North Carolina Bar Association (NCBA) Citizen Lawyer Awards at the NCBA Annual Meeting June 18 – 21 at the Grove Park Inn in Asheville. Frank Laney '82 (Cary), Sharon Parker '87 (Marion), Donald D. Sayers '68 (Salisbury) and John Willardson '72 (Wilkesboro) will be honored.

The awards recognize lawyers who exemplify the ideals of a citizen lawyer and serve as role models who inspire other lawyers. In addition to their legal work, these N.C. lawyers serve their communities in numerous ways every day, including public service in appointed or elected positions, work with nonprofit charitable or political organizations, service in the military, and volunteering with youth sports programs or religious organizations.

Wade Smith '63 of Tharrington Smith in Raleigh will receive the NCBA's highest honor, the Judge John J. Parker Award, during the Saturday morning General Session.

Richard M. Wiggins '58, Fayetteville, will be inducted into the General Practice Hall of Fame at the banquet held Thursday night, June 18.

Bryant Webster '94, Black Mountain, will be presented the William Thorp Pro Bono Service Award during the President's Luncheon on Friday, June 19.

Farewell from Kala Glenn-Pruitt, UNC Law Recruitment Administrator, Retired

Dear UNC Law Alumni Friends,

As some of you know, I retired from the Law School on May 29, 2015. Since December of 1985, it has been my pleasure to know many of you as students, and then assist you with on-campus and other recruitment as alumni. The relationships we've continued through the Law School mean the world to me. I am so thankful to have had the opportunity to keep in touch with you as you've graduated, married, changed jobs, and had children, and shared my own life events with you. I will miss giving you hugs when you come to campus, but I am confident that the Career Development Office Team will continue to take good care of you. I expect to make regular visits to Chapel Hill, and hope that our paths will cross in the future. Until then, I wish you all the best always. It has been a great ride! GO HEELS!
