Class of 2019 Announces Winston B. Crisp ’92 as Commencement Speaker

Winston B. Crisp ’92, UNC-Chapel Hill’s recently retired vice chancellor for student affairs, will deliver the UNC School of Law Commencement address on May 11, 2019. Crisp was selected by the Student Bar Association (SBA) to address this year’s graduating class. UNC School of Law Dean Martin H. Brinkley ’92 will preside during the ceremony.  

Crisp is a 1992 graduate of Carolina Law. Upon graduating, he became the school’s first assistant dean for student affairs and first associate dean for student services. In recognition of Crisp’s outstanding work and leadership, the SBA established an award in his honor. Since 2006, an exemplary graduating law student who demonstrates excellence in student leadership is awarded the Winston Crisp Award.

 In 2005, Crisp transitioned from Carolina Law to become dean of students and assistant vice chancellor for student affairs for the greater campus of UNC-Chapel Hill. Crisp was later appointed vice chancellor for student affairs at UNC-Chapel Hill in 2010.

As a part of his service to the University, Crisp served as co-chair of the Task Force on UNC History. Crisp also established a task force on mental health services in higher education.

Crisp retired in October 2018 after 26 years of service to the University.
