Boardroom 5003 - Marion A. Cowell, Jr. Boardroom

Stand with Students is a new pro bono project that will launch next fall. In an effort to stem the school-to-prison pipeline, law students will advocate for K-12 students facing suspension/expulsion at administrative hearings. This training is the first of two that will be required for participation in the project (the second will be held in August). Attorneys from Legal Aid's Advocates for Children's Services will cover the basics of North Carolina law involving school discipline and student's rights. Following this training, students will have the opportunity to shadow clinical students who are already conducting these sorts of cases, in order to learn more about the logistics and strategies involved in these cases.
