"Legal Sips" Events Offer Education on Legal Issues

Bars and bartenders foster conversation. Attorney Mavis Gragg has taken that accepted notion to another level with a monthly event at Beyú Caffé in Durham called Legal Sips, which takes place every fourth Tuesday at 7 p.m. Legal Sips offers a dynamic discussion about legal issues that allows attendees to interact with members of the legal community and pose questions while enjoying a signature cocktail. Admission is free.

On Tuesday, April 25, the fifth installment of Legal Sips will cover environmental justice, featuring attorneys Chandra Taylor '01 with the Southern Environmental Law Center and Professor Maria Savasta-Kennedy with UNC School of Law. At this talk we will discuss the intersection of civil rights and the environment. Could a situation like that in Flint, Michigan happen in North Carolina? Has it happened already? Our guests will share about the interaction of race, social, and economic factors in connection with laws and policies that govern basic amenities, pollution, and more.
