11:00 AM

1:00 PM

Feeling overly stressed? Want to talk to someone but worried about what must be disclosed on the bar application?

The NC Lawyer Assistance Program is a completely confidential, free program of the NC State Bar that provides assistance to judges, lawyers and law students dealing with mental health issues like anxiety, depression, drug or alcohol problems, or any of life’s stressors that may negatively impact one’s ability to effectively practice law. A unique feature of NC LAP is its network of volunteer lawyers and judges across the state who have recovered from these issues and are willing to provide peer support and mentoring to law students.

LAP volunteers will be here on campus to meet and talk with students from 11 am - 1 pm. They are here to discuss whatever you want and need to discuss. They will also share information about NC LAP, navigating the stress of law school and law practice, how LAP’s mentoring and peer support program work, and answer questions about character and fitness or the bar application. If the door is open, feel free to drop-in. However, students are strongly encouraged to schedule a time to meet in advance.

You may be pleasantly surprised to discover you are not alone, and the stresses you are feeling are totally normal. The catch is finding healthy ways to deal with them now, early on, so you can enjoy a fruitful legal career.
