This year marks the 50th anniversary of the passage of the Equal Pay Act, which requires that men and women in the same workplace be given equal pay for equal work. Despite the protections of the EPA, in 2011 women still only earned 77% of what men earned; indeed, women must still work far into each following calendar year in order to make the same amount men earned in the previous calendar year. As a result, there remains a pressing need for working women to understand the pay equity gap and to achieve skills that might be employed to remedy this gap.
One of these tools is better, more effective negotiation. Consequently, UNC Women in Law and Women in Business presents “She’s Smart: Negotiation $trategies for Women”, a workshop focusing on the unique challenges women face negotiating for pay and position in the workplace. Please join us at UNC School of Law for a discussion and hands-on activities, led by attorneys and business-women from the North Carolina community and focusing on how we as women can better advocate for ourselves in the workplace.
