CDO CareerCasts (on My Carolina Law) are virtual mini-programs designed to address timely career development topics in a 24/7 format. Each is 15 minutes or less.

Symplicity & OCI/OCP

  • Introduction to Symplicity: The CDO uses the Symplicity software system to manage job listings, on-campus interviewing, off-campus interview programs, and other recruiting events. Whether you have used Symplicity in past job searches or are preparing to log-on for the first time, this video, narrated by CDO Recruiting Administrator Kala Glenn-Pruitt, will help ensure you are navigating the system effectively. (8 minutes)
  • Job Bank Tutorial: All job and internship opportunities the CDO posts for students and alumni, other than scheduled on-campus interviews, can be found on our Symplicity Job Bank. This video will teach you how to best utilize the Job Bank and its many helpful features. (7 minutes)
  • On- and Off-Campus Interview Programs: Each year, the CDO hosts dozens of employers for on-campus interviews (OCI) and makes it possible for students of all class years to participate in off-campus interview programs (OCP) around the country. Students will bid (apply) for on- and off-campus interview opportunities through the Symplicity system. This video walks students through the OCI and OCP bidding and interview sign-up process. (11 minutes)

Job Search

  • Creating Your Unofficial Transcript: As you peruse the job postings on Symplicity or prep for OCIs, you may notice that some employers request an unofficial copy of your transcript for your initial application. The CDO has created a step-by-step guide for creating your unofficial transcript, and a brief corresponding video. (5 minutes)
  • CDO Guide to Successfully Transferring to UNC Law: This presentation will provide students transferring to UNC School of Law with critical job search information – deadlines, programs, and resources – to help them design a career development plan and hit the ground running. (7 minutes)
  • JD-Advantage: Making Your Case for Non-Legal Job Opportunities: Considering job and internship opportunities outside of traditional legal practice? This video provides inspiration and information as you pursue alternative pathways, including tips on resumes, cover letters, search strategies, and talking with others about your non-legal career interests. (15 minutes)

  • Behavioral Interviewing: Most employers now incorporate "behavioral" questions into their interviews. These questions ask you to tell a story or recount an example of a situation you've encountered in the past. How can you prepare for behavioral interview questions? Why do employers ask them? This CareerCast video provides helpful insight, examples, and advice on how best to tackle behavioral interview questions. (8 minutes)

  • LinkedIn for Law Students: Focuses on how best to use this powerful networking and job search resource to your advantage, including tips for building a strong profile and making thoughtful, productive connections. (9 minutes)
  • Networking Over Winter Break: Packed with resources, tips, and motivation for your next steps, we hope this short presentation provides the insight and encouragement you need to establish effective professional connections during the holiday season and beyond. (15 minutes)
