The UNC School of Law
Career Services Office has a dedicated staff of nine individuals committed to counseling students and alumni at all stages
of their career development and job search process. Our counselors have more
than 60 combined years of career counseling experience and 60 years of law
practice with law firms, public interest organizations, government agencies,
the judiciary, and in-house corporate legal departments.
We look forward to building
lasting relationship with our students and graduates. Through the programs, resources, and personal
advising of the Career Services Office, you will explore practice areas and
settings, draft compelling legal resumes and cover letters, and learn how to
integrate networking into a successful job search strategy. Services include:
Career Counseling
Law students and alumni may utilize career counseling
services offered by the Career Services Office via appointment at any time.
Counseling is available on all aspects of the career planning and job search
process (defining goals, finding leads, setting up and conducting networking
and informational interviews, resume and cover letter preparation, interview
preparation, assessing options). Law students and alumni are able to schedule in-person, phone, or Skype career counseling appointments.
Mock Interviews
The Career Services Office offers 1-hour mock interview
appointments to help students and alumni enhance their interview skills. Two
CSO counselors facilitate the mock interview, which consists of 30 minutes of
questions and 30 minutes of analysis/critique. Mock interviews can be used to
prepare for a specific interview or to receive general feedback on interview
skills. Mock interviews for phone and Skype interviews are also available. Schedule a mock interview by contacting the CSO.
Walk-in Hours (August-April, No Appointment Necessary)
During the school year, walk-in hours are held Monday through Friday from 2:00-4:00 p.m. Walk-in hours are
intended for issues that can be covered in a 10-15 minute conversation with a
counselor. Students are seen on a first-come, first-served basis. Because walk-in
hours are subject to change, it is recommended that students call the CSO front
desk at 919.962.8102 to confirm that walk-in hours will be held as scheduled.
Programming
During the academic year, the office arranges
presentations on a broad range of topics,
drawing on the experience of practitioners and others in the field.
