The Career Services Office asks all employers recruiting at Carolina Law to honor the following rules of practice. Two weeks prior to your on-campus interview date, you will receive resumes from those students interested in interviewing with your firm or organization. Please notify our office in writing (via e-mail) or online (via Symplicity) of those students you wish to interview at least one week in advance of your on-campus date. UNC School of Law, like all other ABA-approved law schools, prohibits participation in the recruiting process by first-year students during their first semester. Prospective employers are asked to refrain from initiating contact or interviewing first-year students until December 1. UNC School of Law is a member of the National Association for Law Placement and abides by its Principles and Standards for Law Placement and Recruiting Activities. All employers who recruit UNC School of Law students are encouraged to subscribe to NALP's guidelines. You may find a copy of NALP's Principles and Standards under "Hiring Information" at http://www.nalp.org/ or obtain a copy by contacting our office at 919.962.8102. The official non-discrimination policy of UNC School of Law is as follows: "The University of North Carolina School of Law is committed to providing its students and graduates with equal opportunity to obtain employment, without discrimination on the basis of an individual's race, color, gender, national origin, age, religion, creed, disability, veteran's status, sexual orientation, gender identity or gender expression (hereinafter his/her "protected status"). Use of CSO facilities and services is restricted to students and prospective employers who agree to comply with this non-discrimination policy." UNC School of Law complies with the anti-discrimination requirements of state and federal law, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, the American Bar Association, the Association of American Law Schools, and other accrediting agencies. The requirements of the Association of American Law Schools mandate that the School of Law "pursue a policy of providing its students and graduates with equal opportunity to obtain employment, without discrimination or segregation on the grounds of race, color, religion, national origin, sex, age, handicap or disability, or sexual orientation." They further require that the school "communicate to each employer to whom it furnishes assistance to facilities for interviewing and other placement functions. It is the School's firm expectation that the employer will observe the principle of equal opportunity." For this reason, the School of Law asks all employers who intend to use its recruitment facilities to refrain from inappropriate or illegal considerations in the student employment process.
