CLEAR hosts and co-hosts numerous events related to climate change and climate change adaptation, and regularly welcomes leaders in climate change policy to speak at the law school. Many of these events are open to the public. Past events have featured speakers such as Rob Verchick, U.S. EPA Deputy Director of Policy, and Ambassador Klaus Scharioth, German Ambassador to the United States. Since 2008, CLEAR has also hosted three major national workshops, including Adaptation and the Private Sector, described below. Most Recent CLEAR Event Spring 2012 Workshop - "Adaptation and the Private Sector: Adapting Laws to Facilitate Better Private Sector Adaptation to Climate Change" March 30, 2012, Chapel Hill, NC Co-hosted by the Center for Progressive Reform, George Washington University Law School, the Georgetown Climate Center, UCLA's Emmett Center on Climate Change and the Environment, and Vanderbilt University School of Law. Lunch Presentation - "Information to Assist in Private Sector Adaptation and the Role of Government" Vicki Arroyo of the Georgetown Climate Center presented "The Private Sector and Databases that Provide Information on Climate Change Adaptation" John Dorman of the NC Department of Environment and Natural Resources presented "Technologically Advanced Parcel Information for the Private Sector: The Example of North Carolina IRISK." This event allowed leading scholars, government representatives, and policy experts to discuss what the impact of law is on the private sector's ability to adapt to climate change. The group considered what constituted desirable climate change adaptation in the private sector, the way government and law influenced this, and what specific recommendations could be made in specific areas. Read a policy white paper summarizing the workshop and conclusions.
