Volunteer Opportunities for GSWG Members

Community Empowerment Project

The Community Empowerment Fund (CEF) is a student-run organization at UNC that makes small loans to the homeless to help put them on the path to financial stability.  They need volunteers to serve as loan officers, plan workshops for borrowers, hold outreach events, organize fundraisers, and most importantly, work one-on-one with CEF borrowers and applicants.

CEF is also looking for someone with accounting, business or legal expertise to help them set up their loan and savings programs.  Email Heather Hunt if you're interested or want more information.

Does Your Nonprofit Need Help?

The GSWG is interested in partnering with local nonprofits and government agencies on short-term, time-limited projects.  GSWG members offer a wide array of talents and skills, including:
  • Website design
  • Grant writing
  • Literature review
  • Program evaluation
  • Statistical and quantitative analysis
  • Presentations (PowerPoint, etc.)

GSWG members come from a variety of disciplines and are looking for ways to apply their abilities in the "real world" as well as to contribute to the betterment of the greater community.

For inquiries or to submit a project, please contact Heather Hunt (hhunt@email.unc.edu) or Micaela Mercado (mmphd@unc.edu).
