Nicole Downing is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Law and Reference Librarian at the Kathrine R. Everett Law Library. She teaches Advanced Legal Research and focuses her reference work on student services through instruction and research assistance. She previously worked as the Reference and Instructional Services Librarian at the University of Miami Law Library.

Professor Downing earned her B.S. in Marketing Communication and Writing, Literature & Publishing from Emerson College. She then completed her J.D. at the University North Carolina School of Law. While in law school, she was Executive Editor of The North Carolina Journal of Law & Technology, which published her article “Using Fair Use to Stop a Copyright Troll from Threatening Hyperlinkers”. After law school, she earned her M.S.L.S. at the University of North Carolina School of Information and Library Science and worked as a Graduate Assistant at the Kathrine R. Everett Law Library. Her master’s thesis, "The UNC Law Library's Redaction of its Digitized Collection of North Carolina Supreme Court Briefs: A Case Study” won the 2014 AALL/LexisNexis Call for Papers in the Student Division.
