Sylvia Novinsky is the Assistant Dean for Public Service Programs. She joined the School of Law in 1996, serving as the Associate Director for Public Interest Law in Career Services, then as the Assistant Dean for Student Affairs and the Associate Dean for Student Affairs. She coordinates programming and services for students and alumni interested in pursuing careers in public interest law, as well as opportunities for pro bono service at the School of Law.
Dean Novinsky grew up in Queens, New York, and is from Argentina. She is a graduate of Cornell University's School of Industrial & Labor Relations and The American University's Washington College of Law. She practiced employment and immigration law before coming to the School of Law representing migrant farmworkers at Peninsula Legal Aid in Virginia and serving as Legal Director for the Center for Immigrants' Rights in New York, New York. She serves on the NC Bar Association's Public Service Advisory Committee and the Latino Affairs Committee and served as past chair of the Association of American Law School, Student Services Executive Committee.
