Caroline Brown's family is from North Carolina, although she grew up in Miami, Florida. She served as editor-in-chief of the University of Miami Law Review. After a clerkship for the then Justice James G. Exum Jr. of the North Carolina Supreme Court, Brown practiced with the Raleigh firm of Bode, Bode, Call & Bruckel. In 1979, she joined the faculty of the school, where her focus is in contracts and commercial law. Brown is the author of volume 4 of the revised edition of Corbin on Contracts, which addresses the statute of frauds. She teaches contracts and commercial law, including sales and secured transactions and negotiable instruments. She has served on the Drafting Committees of the North Carolina General Statutes Commission to revise UCC Article 5 and Article 9.
