Sylvia Novinsky is the former Assistant Dean for Public Service Programs. She joined the School of Law in 1996, serving as the Associate Director for Public Interest Law in Career Services, then as the Assistant Dean for Student Affairs and the Associate Dean for Student Affairs. She currently serves as an adjunct faculty member at the law school.

Dean Novinsky grew up in Queens, New York, and is from Argentina. She is a graduate of Cornell University's School of Industrial & Labor Relations and The American University's Washington College of Law. She practiced employment and immigration law before coming to the School of Law representing migrant farmworkers at Peninsula Legal Aid in Virginia and serving as Legal Director for the Center for Immigrants' Rights in New York, New York. She serves on the Chief Justice's NC Equal Access to Justice Commission, NC Bar Association's Pro Bono Advisory Committee and served as past chair of the Association of American Law School, Student Services Executive Committee.
