The Implications of Serbia’s Cancellation of Its 2012 Gay Pride Parade

In early October 2012, Serbia cancelled its gay pride parade for the second year in a row, drawing criticism from officials of the Council of Europe, EU Institutions, and rights groups, among others.[1] In addition to potentially violating the European Convention on Human Rights (“ECHR”), the decision is significant in that it may reflect challenges on Serbia’s path to joining the European Union.
