Family Wealth Management Course Number: Law 388 Hours: 3 Course Type: Upper-Level Writing Requirement: Rigorous Writing Experience (RWE) Skills Requirement?: Yes Final Exam?: No Description: The focus of the course would be on a host of wealth related issues that impact on families in addition to estate taxation which is the focus of most personal wealth related courses available at law schools. The course would deal with a variety of wealth related topics including: investment strategies; an overview of income tax issues that impact on families and individuals; the law governing transmission of wealth; the basic structure of inheritance and estate tax law; home ownership; meeting the cost of higher education; life and disability insurance; elder law; planning for retirement; and economic failure and asset protection. Related Courses: This course will serve as an ideal capstone course for most students. It will also be of significant personal value to most students as well as being of value to students who are likely to be involved in a practice which focuses on providing advice to individuals in the conduct of their personal lives.
