Media Law Practicum Course Number: Law 475 Hours: 3 Course Type: Upper-Level Writing Requirement: Writing Experience (WE) Skills Requirement?: Yes Final Exam?: No Description: This is a practice-oriented course focused on media, intellectual property, and communications law. The course will emphasize client counseling; clear and persuasive writing, negotiating, and oral presentations; and critical and strategic thinking and analysis. To facilitate this, students will, in addition to their classroom work, be embedded with students at the UNC School of Journalism and Mass Communication (JOMC) who are creating and publishing material as part of one of the many projects at JOMC that are actively producing news. Due to the unique structure of this class, students will get experience working on teams where the client's goals dictate their work product. This course is particularly well suited for students who want to gain first-hand experience practicing media law.
