Kimbrough is a Magna Cum Laude graduate of Millsaps College and a member of Phi Beta Kappa. She earned her Juris Doctor and Master of Science in Library Science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Kimbrough is a member of the North Carolina State Bar. She worked as a Legal Reference Specialist at the Law Library of Congress from 2004-2007.
