This spring, students at UNC School of Law and members of the Orange County community will provide free income tax preparation for residents of the community. All volunteers are IRS-certified and file returns electronically.
Residents are eligible if they meet the following criteria:
- make less than $50,000 per year,
- are not self-employed or have rental income, and
- have valid Social Security or Individual Taxpayer Identification Numbers.
Sessions are held at UNC School of Law, Van Hecke-Wettach Hall, 160 Ridge Road, Chapel Hill, on Tuesday evenings from 5 to 7 p.m., beginning February 11, and on Saturday afternoons from 1 to 3 p.m., beginning February 7. Sessions are also held at the Chapel Hill Women's Center, 210 Henderson Street, on Wednesday evenings from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., beginning February 4. Services will be offered through April 15 and the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance organization can take up to 8 clients per session.
