Student Organization Offers Free Income Tax Assistance

This spring, students at UNC School of Law and members of the Orange County community will provide free income tax preparation for residents of the community. All volunteers are IRS-certified and file returns electronically. 

Residents are eligible if they meet the following criteria:

  1. make less than $50,000 per year, 
  2. are not self-employed or have rental income, and 
  3. have valid Social Security or Individual Taxpayer Identification Numbers.

Sessions are held at UNC School of Law, Van Hecke-Wettach Hall, 160 Ridge Road, Chapel Hill, on Tuesday evenings from 5 to 7 p.m., beginning February 11, and on Saturday afternoons from 1 to 3 p.m., beginning February 7. Sessions are also held at the Chapel Hill Women's Center, 210 Henderson Street, on Wednesday evenings from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., beginning February 4. Services will be offered through April 15 and the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance organization can take up to 8 clients per session.
