About the Pro Bono Newsletter
The mission of the UNC School of Law Pro Bono Program is to increase the provision of high quality, low-cost legal services to North Carolina residents in need by empowering lawyers to accept more pro bono cases and creating a life-long commitment to pro bono work among UNC Law students. This newsletter supports our mission by providing current students with a comprehensive list of ways to get involved in Pro Bono work while still a student at UNC Law, as well as offering context for the good work our students do through news and information.
Student Group-Sponsored Projects
If you would like your project to appear below, please contact Allie Weller, Group Projects Coordinator, at email@example.com.
Healthcare Navigator Project
Health Care Navigators assist individuals in the registration process for health insurance in the market created by the Affordable Care Act (ACA). Participation in this project is a great opportunity to familiarize yourself with the ACA, and to gain experience working one-on-one with clients. Navigators complete a self-directed online certification generally taking 20 hours. Once certified, Navigators can meet with consumers to inform them of their rights and choices in the health insurance marketplace. Navigators are required to attend at least 3 enrollment events during the Open Enrollment period (Nov. 1, 2015 – Jan. 31, 2016).
Please contact Phillip Waters (firstname.lastname@example.org) for additional information.
Lawyer on the Line Project
NC Legal Aid is looking for motivated 2Ls and 3Ls to work on real cases with real clients. Each case provides the opportunity to work one-on-one with alumni attorneys on housing and employment law cases. Students who participate will improve their interviewing, research, and legal analysis skills by assisting clients with matters that only take a few hours a week.
