Carolina Law has a deep commitment to Public Service:

The University of North Carolina School of Law has a long tradition of training leaders who serve not only their clients, but also their communities, state and nation with great distinction.  Records of significant service often begin well before attending the School of Law but also continue to develop in significant ways during the student's time in Chapel Hill.  Over the years, many graduates have been touched by the spirit of public service that has long characterized the University of North Carolina School of Law, and go on, in their own way, to share the benefit of their training with those in need.  At Carolina Law, public service is not a career path -- it is a deeply-held, collective value, central to who we are and what we do.

• 22% of the Class of 2006 accepted public interest employment.
• The Class of 2007 completed 7940 hours of pro bono service over three years, with 54% of the class participating.
• In 2006, students performed 5372 hours of pro bono service during the academic year.
• Over $95,000 was awarded to students pursuing summer employment in the public sector.
