Scholarships
The following public interest scholarships were awarded to upper-class students for the 2007-2008 academic year:
Trey Cheek Public Interest Memorial Scholarship
Trey Cheek Public Interest Memorial Scholarship Fund is available to either a 2L or 3L based on financial need and a commitment to public interest law.
Peter K. Daniel Memorial Scholarship
The Peter K. Daniel Memorial Scholarship Fund is available for a second-year student. This scholarship will be awarded based on a demonstration of an exceptional commitment to community service (to be distinguished from public interest law), entrepreneurial spirit, strong work ethic and strength of character. This scholarship is available to rising 2Ls only.
William Henry Holderness and William Edward Elmore Scholarship
The William Henry Holderness and William Edward Elmore, Jr., Scholarship Fund is available to one 2L and one 3L to reward academic achievement, financial need, and a commitment to public interest law and community involvement.
The Nancy K. Rhoden Scholarship
The Nancy K. Rhoden Scholarship Fund is available for 2L and 3L students based on merit, and need. A preference will be given to students who can show a commitment to a career dealing with the legal aspects of medicine, bioethics or related fields.
Berman Scholarship
The Berman Scholarship is available to a student supportive of gay/lesbian issues.
W.G. Whichard Scholarship
The Whichard Scholarship is available to students who entered law school from careers in education or those considering careers in public service.
J.R. Kirby Public Service Scholarship
The Kirby Service Scholarship is available to a student from eastern NC who intends to pursue career of public service in government, politics or education.
