Public Interest Peer Mentor Program

The School of Law offers a Public Interest Peer Mentor Program which matches first year students interested in public interest work with like-minded second and third year students. Students are matched up based on practice areas of interest, among other factors. Mentors meet with their mentees on an individual basis throughout the year and serve as a resource to help with the transition to law school, share experiences, and answer questions about public interest careers.

First-year students who wish to participate in the peer mentor program should fill out the Public Interest Peer Mentee application by Monday, August 31, 2009.

Upperclass students interested in serving as public interest peer mentors should fill out the Public Interest Peer Mentor application by Friday, July 31, 2009.

Additionally, the program hosts at least three social events each school year to foster relationships between students from all classes who are interested in public interest careers. Past events have included pot luck dinners, speakers from the public interest community, and more.

Each year, one mentor is honored as Public Interest Peer Mentor of the Year for his/her dedciation and commitment to the program. Past Peer Mentors of the Year include:

  • 2009: Kelley Gondring '09
  • 2008: Tana Liu Beers '09
