Katie is excited to serve as the Director of the Pro Bono Board this year. For the past two years, she has been the Class Coordinator for the Class of 2009 and has thoroughly enjoyed working directly with her class. Katie intends to work with students, faculty, staff, and community leaders to foster a sense of responsibility and commitment to serving others, and is proud to lead such a talented and inspirational Board.
Katie is a 2005 graduate of the University of Alabama in Psychology and Communication Studies, with a concentration in Crimson Tide football. Her chief interests are public defense and capital defender work. Katie interned at Public Defender Service in D.C. as an investigator, volunteered at a Legal Services office in putting together a Hurricane Katrina relief manual, and is currently involved with the Innocence Project and the Public Defender mentor program.

Julie is a New York native who graduated from University of Rochester, majoring in Psychology and Law, Policy and Social Change. After college she moved down south to Charlotte, North Carolina teaching third grade as a Teach for America corps member. During her 1L year she was involved with the Innocence Project, North Carolina Prisoner Legal Services, Carolina Street Law, and traveled to New Orleans to volunteer with the Pro Bono Project. This past summer she worked at Public Citizen Litigation Group in Washington, D.C.
Julie is very excited to become a part of the Pro Bono Board as Attorney Projects Coordinator, and looks forward to connecting with attorneys in a variety of fields to provide pro bono opportunities for all Carolina Law students.
3L Class Coordinator
Allison Standard

Allison is a double Tar Heel, graduating from Carolina in 2006 with a B.A. in Political Science and a minor in Social and Economic Justice. Allison is interested in indigent defense and education law, and she has spent her law school summers working in public defender offices and with a nonprofit assisting local boards of education. Allison fell in love with pro bono work as a participant in the 2006 New Orleans Winter Break Project's criminal law volunteer team, and has also served as a Guardian ad Litem, mentored attorneys at Teen Court, and volunteered with the Community Legal Project. Devoted to public interest law, Allison served as President of the Carolina Public Interest Law Organization in 2007-2008 and is currently a Research Assistant for Public Service Programs.
Allison is excited about her opportunity to serve on the Pro Bono Board as the 3L Class Coordinator. She looks forward to helping 3L students make the most of their last year at Carolina Law and continue to fulfill their commitments to pro bono service.

Vivian Doran Intermont

Vivian is a New York City native who attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison, majoring in Afro-American Studies and Political Science. After graduation she worked for two years at the NAACP Legal Defense Fund as a paralegal, assisting attorneys in their education, criminal justice, economic justice and political participation work. This past summer she interned at the Brooklyn Legal Aid Society - Juvenile Rights Division. She has done public interest work and research in the realm of racial discrimination within the criminal justice system and eventually hopes to work in the area of juvenile justice.
Vivian is extremely excited to represent her class as the 2L Class Coordinator and is eager to continue assisting her classmates in finding rewarding pro bono work. The Class of 2010 has completed an outstanding number of pro bono hours thus far and Vivian hopes they will continue this trend in their second year at Carolina. In her free time she enjoys traveling, skiing, and being outdoors.

Melissa Michaud

Melissa is a Concord, NC native who graduated from Brown University in 2004. After graduation, she fled the cold New England winters and returned to North Carolina as part of the Teach for America Corps. She taught sixth-graders for two years and then traded in her role as teacher for student. Melissa loves Carolina basketball, spicy food, double lattes, and Vinnie (her big black lab).
Melissa is excited to continue serving on the Pro Bono Board. She previously served as the Lead Projects Coordinator. As Legal Education Coordinator, she will develop programs and plan student projects that focus on emerging legal issues in our community. She hopes to engage students, practitioners, and community members in this pursuit!

Meredith is a native of Greensboro, NC and 2004 graduate of UNC-CH with a B.A. in International Studies. She taught middle school math as a member of the Teach for America Corps in New Orleans, LA and then worked with charter school and child care lending at Self-Help in Durham, NC before law school. As a 1L, she returned to New Orleans with other Carolina students to volunteer with the Pro Bono Project and this past summer interned at Legal Aid of NC. Her interests include education, community development, and human trafficking law and policy.
She is excited about keeping the Carolina Law community informed about all the amazing pro bono service opportunities and encouraging students to make a commitment to pro bono service part of their careers. Outside of the law school library, she loves traveling, reading, and Carolina basketball.

Ashley Erickson

Ashley is a native of Elizabeth City, NC and 2004 graduate of the University of Virginia with a double major in Psychology and English. After spending two years traveling the globe and working for a small law firm on the Outer Banks of NC, she was ready to return to school in order to pursue her passions for environmental law and public interest work.
She is more than enthusiastic about taking on her new role of Group Projects Coordinator. She looks forward to creating and maintaining group pro bono projects for the broad range of student organizations within the law school. Outside of school, she is traveling, taking pictures, running, gardening, hiking and otherwise finding a way to be outside as much as possible.

Alexis grew up in many places, but finished high school in Tennessee and graduated from American University with a major in Psychology in 2005. After working for a mental health non-profit, she was ready to return to school in order to pursue her passions for health law and public interest work.
Alexis had a great experience volunteering with Legal Aid last winter break, and she is excited about her Winter/Spring Break Coordinator position and increasing opportunities for 1Ls, 2Ls, and 3Ls to participate in break projects - especially getting 1Ls involved in pro bono service early in their law school careers. Alexis' other passions include running, Diet Coke, photography, intramural softball, Carolina basketball, and traveling.

Michelle is a native of Randleman, North Carolina. She graduated from UNC-Chapel Hill in 2005 with a degree in Journalism and Mass Communications. Michelle worked for two years as a Communications Assistant for the UNC News Services Office. Michelle is interested in intellectual property law.
She is honored to serve on the Pro Bono Board this year as the Winter/Spring Break Coordinator. As Winter/Spring Break Coordinator, Michelle hopes to encourage students to serve the community and gain practical experience during their breaks. Outside of law school, Michelle enjoys music, history, reading and traveling.

Seema is a Charlotte, NC native and 2006 graduate of Duke University, majoring in Public Policy Studies with a certificate in Documentary Studies. After living in Merida, Mexico for a year and doing documentary photography with an arts-based non-profit, she returned to North Carolina for law school. Seema loves UNC Law because of its outstanding faculty, its commitment to public service, and her talented peers. She is involved with the Immigration Law Association and the Latino Legal Initiative Housing Clinic.
Seema is incredibly excited to be on the Pro Bono Board as the Special Trips Coordinator, leading UNC law students to New Orleans over Winter Break to help victims of Hurricane Katrina. In her spare time, Seema can be found traveling the globe, taking photographs, running, dancing at Zumba class, and cheering for Duke Basketball.
