Public Relations Coordinator

The PR Coordinator is responsible for publicizing the Carolina Law Pro Bono Program in the university, local, and state communities. The PR Coordinator will also be responsible for maintaining the content of the Carolina Law Pro Bono Program website and coordinating the production of the Program's Annual Report.

3L Class Coordinator

The main responsibilities include encouraging your classmates to get involved with pro bono work, Keeping track of students' pro bono hours, and coordinating the recognition of student achievements throughout the year.

The 3L Class Coordinator also serves as the face of the Pro Bono Program for the Class of 2009. As 3L Class Coordinator, it is your job, responsibility, and honor to help develop and foster a commitment pro bono work among your classmates that they will hopefully carry into their professional lives. Serving on the Board also affords you the opportunity to interact with an amazing group of like-minded individuals and get to know attorneys, administration, and faculty engaged in pro bono service.

Winter/Spring Break Coordinators (2)

The Winter/Spring Break Co-coordinators work for the fall semester to locate attorneys who have pro bono projects they need assistance with during winter break. Coordinators specifically place out-of-state students with winter break projects on a rolling basis throughout the fall semester while in-state students sign-up for available North Carolina projects on a single morning several weeks before winter break begins. Throughout the fall, co-coordinators are responsible for holding interest meetings and organizing in-state and out-of-state sign-ups as well as contacting North Carolina attorneys and attorneys across the country in order to secure projects. In the spring the co-coordinators hold interest meetings and place all interested students in in-state projects only. Co-coordinators are also responsible for following-up on winter break projects, including thanking participants and sending out evaluation forms (both attorneys and students). Some sort of winter break participant appreciation event is also held in the spring semester.

Special Trips Coordinator

This Coordinator has one of the newest and most exciting jobs on the Board. You will get the law school community excited about pro bono service, and work with attorneys and service organizations to create meaningful pro bono opportunities for students. You'll oversee trip logistics and fundraising, culminating in two satisfying and fulfilling trips during each of the winter and spring breaks!

Attorney Projects Coordinator

This Coordinator works to connect attorneys doing pro bono work with students interested in gaining pro bono work experience. At the beginning of each semester, the Coordinator works closely with attorneys at local firms and organizations to recruit individual student projects. This Coordinator is also responsible for staying in contact with attorneys throughout the semester about the status of their student projects and working with the Class Coordinators resolve any difficulties that may arise with attorneys regarding the postings they have submitted. S/he also works with the Board, faculty, and the administration to develop creative new ways to spread the word about the resources available to attorneys through the Program and to increase the diversity of projects available to students. This position is a great opportunity to get to know attorneys and learn more about different practice areas! Additionally, the Attorney Projects Coordinator will assist in the solicitation follow up for winter/spring break projects.

Student Group Projects Coordinator

The Student Group Projects Coordinator serves as a liaison to student groups at Carolina Law School to assist them with developing, maintaining, and managing their own Pro Bono projects. This may also involve coordinating group trainings and helping groups in the developing stages contact attorneys to assist them. The Student Group Projects Coordinator will serve as liaison between group projects and winter break coordinators to help convert pro bono projects into winter break pro bono projects. Finally, the Student Group Projects Coordinator is responsible for educating each student group at the beginning of the school year or when a group project comes into existence on what does and does not qualify as pro bono, as defined by Article IV, Section A. They are also responsible for helping to ensure that the student groups are providing services which are permissible for law students to provide, and are not committing unauthorized practice of law violations. Additionally, the Student Group Projects Coordinator will assist in the solicitation follow up for winter/spring break projects.

All Positions

All Pro Bono Board Members will be expected to hold two office hours per week in the Pro Bono office. In addition, the Board meets bi-weekly during the noon hour to discuss upcoming projects, panels, etc... During the fall semester, all Board members participate in soliciting winter break pro bono projects, usually making phone calls and sending emails during office hours. Depending on the number of projects needed/available, this may take several hours outside your allotted office hours. Finally, all Board members help with panel and program set-up, clean-up, and logistics.
