Through the Legislative Looking Glass: Debunking the Myths of Marriage Equality
Tuesday, October 30, 12:00-12:50 p.m., Room 5046
What happens behind the scenes to get marriage equality enacted? Does marriage equality threaten religious liberty? What kind of legislators support marriage equality? Are there compelling non-religious arguments against marriage equality?
Find out the answer to these questions and more from Anthony Michael Kreis,
Ph.D. Candidate at the University of Georgia and political co-chair for the
Human Rights Campaign in Atlanta, who will speak on his research and personal
experience with marriage equality legislation. His talk will illustrate more
generally the role of religion in the public policy process, the influence of
legal norms in the political arena, the importance of diversity in democratic
institutions, and the way courts can help shape social change.
