Commencement is set for Saturday, May 11, 2013 in Carmichael Arena at 10 a.m.

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. Where/When is commencement? The UNC School of Law's Commencement ceremony will be held on Saturday, May 11 in Carmichael Arena, 10 a.m.
  2. Do I need tickets? No. Tickets are not needed for the School of Law's Commencement. You may bring as many family members and friends as you like. It is open to the public.
  3. What time do graduates need to be there? What is the timeline for the ceremony? Graduates should arrive at 8:15 a.m. A group photo will be taken one hour and fifteen minutes prior to commencement. If graduates are not in proper regalia at that time, they will not be included in the photo. Graduates will then follow John Kasprzak for alphabetical line up for the processional. A reception will be held immediately following the ceremony at the School of Law.
  4. How long does the ceremony usually last? Approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes.
  5. When and where is the reception? Immediately following Commencement, there will be a lunch celebration at the law school. Graduates and all of their family and friends are invited. No need to RSVP.
  6. Where do we park? Parking is first-come, first-serve in the lots surrounding the School of Law. Graduates are encouraged to get to campus early in order to find a parking place.
  7. I have elderly guests or guests needing assistance coming. Are any special arrangements made for them? Yes. There will be parking spots reserved on South Road for disability parking. If you have a guest with a handicap placard, they will be able to park there. Guests needing assistance can also be dropped off at the Carmichael entrance closest to South Road. There will be staff and student marshals with wheelchairs waiting at the curb available for any guests that need a hand. Please remind your guests to arrive early to avoid congestion. Please contact Hannah Camenzind with additional accommodation requirements.
  8. What happens if it rains? Since the ceremony is held indoors, there are no rain provisions made. The ceremony will be held as planned.
  9. Is there a rehearsal for Commencement? No. Since there is no rehearsal, it is imperative you follow all directions given to you by School of Law administration and student marshals.This is especially important during the line up for processional.
  10. Where do I get my diploma? Your diploma will be mailed to you during the summer. Please make sure that the permanent address listed in Connect Carolina is appropriate. The U.S Postal Service will not forward diplomas.
  11. Will there be a professional photographer? Yes. A representative from Grad Images will take a group photo prior to the ceremony and two individual photographs of each graduate will also be taken during the ceremony. Sharon Sessoms, School of Law Registrar, will provide mailing addresses to Grad Images. Photo proofs will arrive in the summer, and you can order photographs directly from the company at that time. If you have a privacy flag on your UNC information, please see Ms. Sessoms to let her know if you would like your mailing address given to Grad Images Photography for the purpose of receiving graduation photo proofs. If you did not receive proofs, you can contact Grad Images through their website: http://www.gradimages.com/Home/ContactUs.
  12. When should I make hotel/restaurant reservations for my out-of-town guests? As soon as possible. All UNC professional schools and all UNC undergraduates have Commencement ceremonies on the weekend of May 11-12, as does Duke University and other local colleges and universities. Hotel accommodations fill up fast.
