Class of 2013 Gift Honors N.C. Chief Justice Henry Frye '59

Thanks to the vision and generosity of the Class of 2013, UNC School of Law will soon be graced by a portrait of Chief Justice Henry Frye ’59, an elected official and judge who was the first African-American Chief Justice of the North Carolina Supreme Court. “Our class wanted to pick a gift that was thoughtful and not only brought the class together but also honored an important legacy at the law school that would inspire future generations,” says Jeremy Collins, 2013 class president. “I feel like we accomplished all of those things with this gift.”


Everett '20 Charitable Trust Gives $2.7 Million to UNC School of Law

In a transformational gift to UNC School of Law, Greg Everett, a trustee of the Kathrine R. Everett Charitable Trust, delivered two checks totaling $2.7 million to the law school. The first gift of $2.4 million will create an endowment to fund at least six full-tuition Everett Chancellors’ Scholarships for highly promising law students from North Carolina. A second complementary gift of $300,000 will establish the Everett Enrichment Fund, which will provide programmatic support of all students who are recipients of Chancellors’ Scholarships at UNC School of Law.


William R. Kenan Jr. Charitable Trust Gift in Memory of UNC President Emeritus William Friday '48

The trustees of the William R. Kenan Jr. Charitable Trust announced a gift of $1 million to UNC School of Law in memory of UNC President Emeritus William C. Friday ’48, who died Oct. 12, 2012. The trustees designated the gift for support of student scholarships. Friday attended UNC School of Law after serving as a lieutenant in the U.S. Naval Reserve from 1942 until 1946 during World War II. While a student, Friday was president of the Law School Association.
